Key Points of 2016: Part 4
Six down, four to go…
We are well into the week and Aragon is just around the corner. This week WorldSBK.com – following some deliberation in the office – is pondering ten things we should be excited about. In no specified order, we carry on with 7 and 8…
Germany back on the calendar
A venue which didn’t feature in 2015 is back, taking the paddock to a country it hasn’t visited for the past two seasons. In September, the Lausitzring – which first hosted a WorldSBK race in 2001 and is positioned neatly between Berlin and Dresden – makes its return to World Superbike at what could be a crucial point of the season; the track previously hosted WorldSBK in 2001 and 2002 ahead of a further stint from 2005 to 2007. The Lausitzring is the fourth different circuit to have staged a German round of World Superbike after Hockenheim, the Nurburgring and Oschersleben.
Bigger and better global TV coverage
Once again, WorldSBK’s worldwide television coverage has expanded. In 2016, the World Championship not only has premier class races on both Saturdays and Sundays on a regular basis for the first time, but they are being shown live and OnDemand in even more countries. Many TV broadcasters are showing action from all of the support races, whether it be World Supersport or Superstock 1000. More competition, more live action and more on-screen graphics. More exhilaration!
